Smooth As Chocolate

The Smooth Festival of Chocolate will return to the Rocks for the fourth year on August 12 and August 13. It will be like paradise for every chocolate and dessert lover in Sydney, with industry heavyweights and new players showing off their products and exciting and professional demonstrations.

Taking over the sidewalks, lawns and streets of The Rocks beside Circular Quay, the festival will bring together over 100 artisan chocolatiers, pastry chefs and ice creameries for a celebration of all things chocolate. Local favourites Gelato Messina and Black Star Pastry will be serving up their best, while the folks at Mr Black will host a pop-up espresso martini bar serving Espresso Jar-Tinis topped with Nutie doughnuts.

Not everyone last year was able to indulge in the smooth Festival of Chocolate, but this year they heard the call. Everyone has the right to delicious desserts – rejoice vegan, gluten free, but free dairy free option friends. Now in its third year, Sydney Science Festival, 8-20 August, features 175 registered events that cover forensics, life-size roaming dinosaurs, DNA extractions and stargazing. The festival runs around Sydney including the Powerhouse Museum, the Botanic Gardens, Sydney Opera House, the Australian Museum and more.

Super Science Saturday and Family Science Sunday is for the curious kid in everyone. Bring your giant science questions to Dr Karl Live, to seeing the stars and the cosmos at Astronomy in the Park.

The largest independent arts festival is returning in September for a whole month of creativity and art. The Sydney Fringe Festival will span theatre, circus, music, comedy, visual art, cabaret, dance and more. The HPG Festival Hub warehouse will be transformed and home to an immersive experience.

The Fringe Ignite launch party will present a series of live music gigs and performances from 3pm at Kensington St, Chippendale. Fringe Kids over the first week of the school holidays and last of the festival will include circus show, The Boy Who Was Born With a Moustache, storytelling performance and more.

This year’s festival includes two major music events. The Global Rhythms on 24 September, filling Glebe’s Bicentennial Park with a family friendly kaledisocope of sound, food and art. Lah Lah’s Big Live Bane and the Sydney Youth Orchestra join together for the close of the festival.
